Spring Fishing has begun!
5.19.2010 Spring is in full swing in the lowcountry; the dolphin are hot, weed lines are thick and the occasional blue marlin rears her head. We always look forward to this time of year. Last week, we took out the Hightower Construction crew out on the HBW 62' for a day of R&R. Check out the video below for running and action footage. It was a beautiful calm day with a slight cooling breeze.

Photos of Completed Steeple
4.19.2010 Now that the steeple is completed, she has been welcomed by and has become part of Historic Downtown Charleston. Shown below are some photos that include the steeple in the "Churches of Charleston." The positive comments and community outreach both Hightower and Glenn Keyes have received on this project have been humbling.

Steeple Completed!
March 2010
The Steeple for St. John the Baptist is Completed. Hightower Boatworks worked closely with Hightower Construction and Glenn Keyes Architects on this project. The steeple is an 82' foot addition to the Catholic Cathedral of downtown Charleston. Traditionally, on the East Coast, steeples have been built by fishermen/boatbuilders when fishing was slow. Hightower Boatworks is proud to uphold this tradition. We incorporated cold mold technology into the steeple in order to keep her light, and we also used our design and CNC capabilities to create all our own structural precast concrete architectural pieces. All the guys in the shop are proud but eager to start on the next boat project. There is talk of continuing with the Hightower 45' or building some 20-30' custom outboards for Charleston Harbour....more to come shortly.
The steeple expanded our skill set. Our design-to-build capabilities seem to have no boundaries and, since all our employees are the same, our cumulative efforts truly make a TEAM.
Now that the steeple is done it is time to turn our attention to fishing! Spring is on its way and we are eager to get on the water. What a thrill -- Heading out of the harbour at dawn on the Hightower 62' only to look back at the city and see our steeple glistening in the morning sun!
We made local and national news with completion of steeple. See links below
